History Repeats Itself

Is America the new Rome? In this day and age America can be compared to Rome due to all the similarities these two, dare I say, empires have in common. Rome and America are obviously not exactly similar to each other because of the years in between them. Based on facts, America is the reincarnation of Rome. It is hard to tell if America will have the same fate as Rome, being the rapid destruction of the empire. Both Rome and America are known to have the most powerful and feared military. This trait allows for Rome to conquer land, and for America, occupy land through their military. “The US has military bases, or base rights, in some 40 countries across the world – giving it the same global muscle it would enjoy if it ruled those countries directly.” (J. Freedland, ‘RomeAD, … Rome, DC?’ The Guardian) Base rights and being able to house military in other countries is modern day conquering. Just like Rome, America has occupancy in 20% of all the countries on Earth. Rome was run by a Republic for all most all of the years it stood. The Republic is very similar to the American Democracy, which consists of a President (King) and his congress (the senate). Governmental structure between Rome and America is scary close. Two other factors that come into play when comparing Rome and America is their dominance of the economy and language. Latin was adopted by all conquered lands and was spoken globally becoming the official language of Rome, much like English. Also, the Roman and American currencies were not adopted globally, but both stood for global currency. When comparing these two empires, many similarities come up that are too noticeable to miss. America is a modern day Rome.
