Titans of History

The philosopher George Santayana once said: “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” The United States, like Rome, is the most dominant power of its’ time. The United States and Rome both have the most powerful militaries of their time. These military powers are both are unrivaled by any other nation. Both nations have other powers as well, including language, culture, and commerce. Rome and the US are both the home of the universal language, culture, and currency of the time. The United States have spread English throughout the world, to the point that almost all countries teach English to the young kids in school. The US has spread culture, such as music, entertainment, and restaurant chains throughout the world. During the United State’s occupation of almost all countries in the world. The American culture has diffused all over the planet to the point that one must consider the United states to have worldly influence of an empire rather than just a nation. “Both Rome and America created global structures—administrative, economic, military, cultural—that the rest of the world and their own citizens came to take for granted, as gravity and photosynthesis are taken for granted.” This quote describes the global influence that America has developed and continues to maintain. Another similarity between the two powers is the openness of the societies. Both powers welcome foreigners and immigrants of all different races and genes and use incomers to benefit the nation. This system is extremely beneficial because different people have different talents and abilities. Also, both nations take advantage of the hard work of immigrants and foreigners. This pool of workers allow the powers to accomplish some tasks cheaply and effectively that they may not have been able to accomplish if they did not allow others to come and live in their land. The melting pots that are the United States and Rome were diverse and powerful.
