The Second Battlefield

When choosing to be a soldier, men and women do not just need to worry about the battlefront, but they also need to worry about coming home once they have finished a deployment. There are many hardships and trouble that come with returning state side after war and combat. In “Tips for a smooth transition,” Evie acts as if she has PTSD towards her husband coming home from combat. She does not know what to say to him because she is afraid he is going to snap at the slightest things she could say. There is a lack of communication between the couple as well. Also, “Jody” plays a role in this story too because Evie cheats on her husband while he is away at war.

In the Odyssey, Odysseus returns home from war after twenty years of being away for combat. When he first spends time with his wife Penelope, she is not sure if it is really him or not. After a while she realizes it is actually the real Odysseus by switching furniture in their bedroom. Everything seems to be very happy within their relationship but there is a sense of lack of communication among the two because they have spent so much time away from one another.

Then in “No Mans War,” Angela (the wife) had a hard time adjusting back to normal life once her husband came home from war. Overtime, she grew to live without her husband and sustain a normal lifestyle and support the kids without a father figure around. And once he returned it was hard for her to adjust back to having a man in her life once again.

And finally in the “Hurt Locker,” Jeremy Renner returns home but cannot find any adrenaline rush because of his boring lifestyle. This leads him to leave his wife and kid once again and return to the battlefield for another deployment. That is where he feels most at home.
